Rams Eye Big Opening Weekend in Winter Sports

Okay, GC Nation. Our winter sports teams are ready for action!

This weekend marks the opening of highly anticipated seasons in various sports, including girls and boys basketball, boys’ and girls’ swimming, and ice hockey.  And let’s not forget our wrestling team!

On Friday, December 14,  several marquee matchups are scheduled:

Ice Hockey

Rams vs. St. Augustine Prep at St. Augustine, 4:40 p.m.

 

Girls’ Basketball

Lady Rams vs. Deptford at Deptford, 5:30 p.m.

 

Boys’ Basketball

Rams vs. Deptford at home, 7:00 p.m.

 

Boys’ Swimming

Rams vs. Deptford at GCIT, 6:15 p.m.

 

Girls’ Swimming

Lady Rams vs. Williamstown at GCIT, 7:30 p.m.

 

On Saturday, the boys’ basketball team will play Florence Township in the Jimmy V Classic at Schalick High School at 12:30 p.m. while the
wrestling team will compete in a tournament at Bordentown High School, with the time to be determined.

So gear up, all you GC fans, for a great weekend of sports! Come out and cheer our Ram teams on to victory!

 

Gloucester Catholic to Participate in Jimmy V Foundation Basketball Showcase on Dec. 15

The Gloucester Catholic Boys Basketball team will participate in the First Annual Jimmy V Foundation Showcase at Schalick High School on Saturday December 15 . The Rams take on Florence High School at 12:30 pm.

All proceeds from ticket sales, T-shirt sales, 50-50s and an auction will go to the Jimmy V Foundation for cancer research. Tournament Director and Schalick Head Coach Eric Cassidy has dedicated the showcase to his mother Deborah Sheehan, a Gloucester Catholic alum who died in October 2011 of breast cancer.

The Rams are honored to play in the event that helps raise money for such a worthy cause. Below is the schedule of Saturday’s showcase games.

11:00 am: Schalick vs. Highland
12:30 pm: Gloucester Catholic vs. Florence

2:00 pm: Haddonfield vs. Sacred Heart
3:30 pm: Delsea  vs. St. Benedict’s

5:00 pm: Paulsboro vs. Vineland

Race Site: National Park,  NJ Fire House (Grove and Hessian Streets) National Park, NJ

Fast, flat course passes through scenic Red Bank Battlefield

REGISTRATION: 8:00 AM   Event Start Times: 1 mile run walk 8:45      5k 9:00 AM

Entry Fees: $20.00 before October 20, $25.00 after October 20

Awards to 1st overall Male and Female and Age Group Awards in 5k,  Dave Williams award to first GCHS finishers  Male and Female, Browning Ross Style Prizes, souvenir t-shirts guaranteed to first 300 registrants. Results posted online after race. Great refreshments!

Nominations Accepted for Alumni Special Awards

The GCHS Alumni Communion Breakfast will be held on Sunday, November 18th beginning with Mass at 9:00 am followed by the breakfast. Both events will be held in the Msgr. Edward Lucitt Hall. Tickets can be purchased by contacting Anne Barron at 856-456-4400, ext.220.

The GCHS Alumni Board of Trustees is accepting nominations for the special awards that will be presented at the Alumni Communion Breakfast.

Below you will find the awards and their criteria. Feel free to write a few words of support of the nomination. All nominations must be received by October 16th.

Nominations are needed for the following Special Awards:

John and Jackie O’Donnell Award

•  Given annually to a graduate of Gloucester Catholic who demonstrates generous service to the Gloucester Catholic school community.

 

Dr. Frank & Catherine Kelly Award

• Given annually to a friend of GCHS who through their good work brings honor and recognition to the school.

 

Thomas Stewart III Award

• Awarded to the Gloucester Catholic graduate that demonstrates selfless commitment and extraordinary service to the greater community.
